Reading Classes (Grouped)

Highly skilled readers get critical thinking instruction, while struggling readers learn comprehension skills.

We tutor comprehension, response, analysis, fluency, and critical thinking.  While reading a passage in class, we model comprehension techniques and critical thinking, pulling students into the thought process.  Afterwards the teacher leads a discussion, encouraging synthesis, analysis, and evaluation.  Our book choices come largely from the California Department of Education's Recommended Literature: Kindergarten Through Grade Twelve.

Reading Classes (Individual)

For unmotivated readers, nothing works like a one-on-one tutor.

We teach comprehension, response, analysis, fluency, phonics, phonemic awareness, and critical thinking.  After a comprehensive diagnostic, we point out strengths and weaknesses.  Through direct instruction, we address those weaknesses.  Then, because all the good research says that children learn to read by reading, we read fun and interesting books with them while working on skills.
